Overview

The PY Accounting Program is formally known as the Skilled Migration Internship Program – Accounting (SMIPA), a Professional Year Program developed by CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants. The program consists of training and an accounting internship placement designed to improve the career prospects of international accounting graduates from Australian universities.

We also offer the Professional Year program to IT and Engineering graduates.

Am I eligible?

To qualify for the Professional Year Accounting Program (SMIPA), you must have:

To qualify for the Professional Year Accounting Program (SMIPA), you must have:

  • completed an undergraduate or postgraduate 
  • award in Australia in accounting
  • hold or applied for a 485 visa (either stream) 
  • hold a Higher Education Sector visa (subclass 57
  • hold a eligible Secondary Visa with work and study rights
  • evidence of a English language proficiency
  • a valid skills assessment from an accounting professional association

General Skilled Migration

The Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting (SMIPA) is approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), which means on successful completion you may be eligible for migration points towards permanent residence in Australia.

MYOB accounting software training

MYOB is an accounting software program that is widely used by Australian businesses. As part of your course with Navitas, you will have access to specialised, online training in MYOB so you can be better prepared when you secure your first job in accounting.

BSB40212 - Certificate IV in Business

Upon completion of the program, participants will also gain a government accredited and nationally recognised Certificate IV in Business (BSB40212).

This certificate demonstrates that participants have the understanding, skills and abilities equal to those who have been in the Australian workforce for several years.

  • Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) in either stream
  • Higher Education Sector visa (subclass 573)

  • Navitas is approved by relevant Professional Associations (CPA, CA, IPA, ACS & EEA) to offer the DIBP gazetted Professional Year Program in ICT and Engineering, and the Skilled Migration Internship program- Accounting (SMIPA), in five states
  • Minimum attendance of 80% is required by DIBP and enforced by Navitas Professional
  • Our training and assessment practices are fully compliant under ASQA Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
  • Navitas Professional Training Pty Ltd is a registered training organisation RTO: 21663
  • All Navitas Professional trainers hold a TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, hold a minimum of a Certificate IV in a relevant vocational qualification, are experienced working in the Australian workplace and provide excellence in teaching adults utilising best practice adult learning techniques.
  • Business Development Coordinators interview all applicants to assess suitability for the program and internship placements
  • Internship Placement Coordinators perform a minimum of one workplace progress assessment during each internship

Grading and assessments

Participants are graded on classroom attendance and participation, assessment tasks and completion of the 12 week internship placement in their field of study.
