Overview

The Navitas Professional Year Program is a professional development program combining formal learning and an Australian internship placement experience.

Navitas Professional is the only provider able to offer the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Professional Year Program, Engineers Australia’s Professional Year in Engineering and Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting (SMIPA) nationwide.

The program is designed to assist international student graduates gain employment in their chosen career, as well as provide eligibility for migration points towards permanent residency.

Am I eligible?

To qualify for the Professional Year Program, you must have:

To qualify for the Professional Year Program, you must have:

  • completed an undergraduate or postgraduate award in Australia in a relevant field of study
  • hold or applied for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485, either stream) 
  • hold a Higher Education Sector visa (subclass 573)
  • hold a eligible Secondary Visa with work and study rights
  • evidence of English language proficiency
  • a valid skills assessment from a relevant professional association

Offshore university graduates may be eligible to complete the Professional Year in Engineering on a 476 visa. For further information visit the Engineering Education Australia website.

  • Navitas is approved by relevant Professional Associations (CPA, CA, IPA, ACS & EEA) to offer the DIBP gazetted Professional Year Program in ICT and Engineering, and the Skilled Migration Internship program - Accounting (SMIPA), in five states
  • Minimum attendance of 80% is required by DIBP and enforced by Navitas Professional
  • Our training and assessment practices are fully compliant under ASQA Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
  • Navitas Professional Training Pty Ltd is a registered training organisation RTO: 21663
  • All Navitas Professional trainers hold a TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, hold a minimum of a Certificate IV in a relevant vocational qualification, are experienced working in the Australian workplace and provide excellence in teaching adults utilising best practice adult learning techniques.
  • Business Development Coordinators interview all applicants to assess suitability for the program and internship placements
  • Internship Placement Coordinators perform a minimum of one workplace progress assessment during each internship
  • All Navitas Professional graduates are surveyed for student satisfaction on completion of the Professional Year Program

Which visa do I need?

To apply for the Professional Year Program you will need to hold a:

  • Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) in either stream

These visas let you live and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. For more information on these visas and how to apply, visit our visa page.

Grading and assessment

Participants are graded on classroom attendance and participation, assessment tasks and completion of the 12 week internship placement in their field of study.

To receive a Professional Year certification participants must have a 100%  attendance record, complete the required assessment tasks and a 12 week internship placement in their field of study.
